You may be wondering why the feminine name “Esther” is currently trending on social media platforms in Nigeria, including X (formerly known as Twitter) and TikTok.

In the case of the new trend Esther, the Nigerian internet space seems to be already obsessed with the content of a new cat TikToker identified as @des_man21.
The trending TikToker who recently began to gain popularity after fellow TikTokers and several other content creators began to use his sound, had posted a video in which he humourously spoke about the obvious transitioning of women’s complexion especially when they begin to make money.
Speaking in pidgin parlance, Des_man’s words in the 18seconds clip caught the attention of millions of internet users who are now using the sound to create their own videos, showing their amazing transitions of before and after they made money.
He said in the video:
“Esther was black and broke. But when Esther see money, ESTABLISH!”.
Though his captions spells “ESTABLISH,” the TikToker implies that the referenced Esther bleached her skin after making some money to become fair.
The new trend has however, triggered a feeling of nostalgia amongst viewers of these contents and even content creators as the changes experienced by some persons are truly thought-provoking.
