Popular Nollywood actor, Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji also known as Sisi Quadri is dead. The comic Yoruba actor was reported to have died on Friday 1st, March 2024, at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State where he was admitted.
The death of Quadri was announced by his colleagues in the Nollywood industry and confirmed by Bolaji Amosan alias Mr. Latin who is the president of the Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAM) via his Instagram handle with a short message: “Hmm, may God grant him eternal rest.”
The late actor’s brother, Mukhtar Oyebamili while narrating the situation surrounding his death, disclosed that Quadri didn’t have any serious ailment, as he only complained of malaria and ulcers to them a few days before his sudden demise.
He said, “February 19, 2024, we received a call informing us that he had collapsed while acting on set, and we dispatched one of our brothers to pick him up from the location. On 18 February, he sent us money, expressing his wish for us to dig a borehole because it would mark a year on 22 February since our mother passed away. So, he had a borehole dug for our mother last year, and to commemorate the anniversary of her passing, he sent us money to dig a new borehole, which we promptly began working on.
“When he visited on 21 February, he mentioned that he was not feeling well, and we promptly took him to the hospital. Upon arrival, he underwent tests, which revealed he had malaria, and he received treatment accordingly. He had also complained of an ulcer, and he was equally treated. He was discharged on 26 February.”
Before the actor gave up the ghost, he shared a video on his social media handle expressing his disappointment and frustration that he was not receiving satisfactory medical attention.
He explicitly asserted that he felt fine until some tests were conducted, and expressed disappointment that his complaints were not taken seriously by the medical staff.
“You have not taken me seriously since I came to this hospital. You have done a series of tests, yet none of the results were given to me. No one is telling me what the results or the problem is,” he said.
The viral video triggered an uproar among Nigerians, who complained and registered their disappointment in the discontented state of the healthcare system in the country.
Prior to his death, the actor had worked on securing a US visa, which he eventually got. This was disclosed by a show promoter, Olawale B of Fathia Entertainment.
Olawale posted the late actor’s picture on his Instagram and wrote: “So sad to hear the death of Nollywood actor @iamsisiquadir whose US visa was already approved. date fixed already. Who are we to question God.”
The remains of the Nollywood actor were brought to his hometown in the Agbowo area of Iwo where he was buried, after prayers were offered to him.
The Osun state governor, Ademola Adeleke commiserated with the family. He describes the actor as a “great talent” who brought laughter and heartwarming moments to his audiences.
Marufudeen Lawal, the chairman of the Odun chapter of the Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), described the deceased as an “endowed talent” and said he would be missed by his colleagues in the entertainment industry.
