The Lagos State Government has confirmed receipts of the toxicology test conducted to ascertain what led to the sudden death of Afrobeat music star, Ilerioluwa Aloba, professionally known as Mohbad.
According to the Lagos state government’s report, the results obtained has been forwarded to the police authorities for furtherance of the necessary actions.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, when contacted confirmed the receipt of the test result.
Also recall that the Director of Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, Richard Somiari had on March 20 said that the toxicology result would be ready in the next three to four weeks.
Somiari, while testifying during a coroner’s inquest into the death of the singer said, “We expected to get the first set of autopsy results in three to four weeks and re-confirm to authenticate the cause of the death.
“We searched for multiple possibilities, to check if poison was involved in the death of Mohbad since no actual cause was mentioned,” he said. The forensic expert assured the public of adequate security and monitoring of samples for the autopsy.
“We have a place where items are stored for safety and security of results. There is a procedure for monitoring samples moved abroad,” he added.
Recall that the sudden death of the music star threw Nigerians into deep sorrow. Also the hasty burial given to him further sparked more controversy and suspicions in the minds of his fans and other well-wishers.
After several days of Mohbad being laid to rest, his body was exhumed in order to conduct autopsy tests and determine what actually led to his death.
His death also led to the arrest of his former Boss, Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry who were allegedly suspected to have hands in the singer’s death as a result of alleged misunderstanding they had before his sudden demise.
They were subsequently released from police custody on bail, pending trial proper.
The Lagos State Police Command had, on September 18, 2023, inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the singer’s death.
Mohbad Son’s DNA Test Controversy
Since the Afrobeat music star died, there has been a severe battle in the family between the singer’s father Mr Joseph Aloba and his daughter-in-law Wunmi (Mohbad’s wife) over Mohbad’s son paternity authenticity.
Wunmi had been asked to collaborate with the family as they want to conduct DNA test to ensure that her son rightfully belongs to Mohbad. But for certain reasons, she has refused.
The family of Aloba through Mohbad’s father then, filed a suit seeking a DNA test for his grandson, Liam.
The family sought an order from the court directing that the test be conducted in a recognised and accredited government or private medical facility within the state at the expense of the applicant.
In recent development, Mr Joseph Aloba said he has obtained court order, mandating that the DNA test be conducted. He also revealed that he has served a notice of the pending DNA test application on his son’s wife, Wunmi, by substituted means.
It was earlier gathered that the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu granted the order last week Monday.
The Aloba family’s lawyer, Monisola Odumosu, revealed that the notice was pasted at Wunmi’s last known address earlier in the day.
Odumosu said, “The law required that an application to use other legal means to effect service on the respondent be adopted. So as a result of the order granted by the court in this regard, we have served the notice and it was posted at her last known address on Friday morning.”
“We expect her to be in court or his legal representation on May 14, 2024,” the lawyer added.
