Satellite TV broadcasting company Multichoice, has announced new prices for its packages.
According to the notice signed by Multichoice CEO, John Ugbe, and sent to its subscribers and customers via email on Wednesday, the pay-Tv operators announced an increment in the price of packages for viewers, rising beyond where it used to be.
Subscribers are to now pay more to view their favourite channels on DStv and GOtv stations beginning from May 1.
Multichoice said it increased the price for its packages following an upward review on the prevailing economic situation in the country.
Speaking to Newmen, officials of the company said last night that it became inevitable to raise the fees because of the increased cost and inflationary trend adding that firms in the brewery sub-sector, Netflix have increased their rates while the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) recently approved tariff raise for Band A Customers.
Following the new review and price hike for packages on both satellite stations which is coming four months after the last increment across the board, the DStv Premium package has been raised from N29, 500 to N37,000; DStv Compact+ went up from N19,800 to N25,000 and the Compact package rose from N12,500 to N15,700.
Others are: Comfam package (from N7,400 to N9,300); Yanga package (from 4,200 to N5,100) and Padi package (from N2,950 to N3,600).
HDPVR was increased from N4, 000 to N5,000; Access Fees package from N4,000 to N5,000 and XtraView moved from N4,000 to N5,000.
The Gotv Supa+ package moved from N12,500 to N15,700; Supa package from N7,600 to N9,600; Max package from N5,700 to N7,200; Jolli package was jacked up from N3,950 to N4,850; Jinja package moved from N2,700 to N3,300 and Smallie package from N1,300 to N1,575.
Recall that the company had reportedly implemented an upward review of prices in December 2023, days after announcing a $72m loss in its financial statement for the third quarter of the year.
However, checks on the company’s reviewed price list then showed a 20 per cent hike in the company’s packages across the board.
In another story, the Abuja Investments Company Limited in a recent announcement disclosed that the rehabilitations at the International Conference Centre (ICC) has been temporarily suspended till July 5th 2024.
According to the company, the directive was authorised by the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
The company also disclosed that the decision was made to accommodate two significant events that are of peculiar nature and of importance to the nation and the international community.
