A private funeral service was held for Irving ‘Irv Gotti’ Lorenzo on Wednesday 18 February, following the cancellation of the initial one scheduled for Tuesday. The private service was attended by only family members and close acquaintances in honour of the legend.
The hip-hop world gathered in New York City to pay tribute and their last respects to Irv Gotti at the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York. Among those who graced the funeral service was Jay-Z who was seen sitting in the front row and clapping while Ja Rule delivered a heartfelt speech that captivate the audience’s emotions.
Ja Rule began by eulogising the late music executive and asserts that everyone loves him. “I just want to say, Irv, I love you, everyone in this room loves you. You touched everybody in your way in this room,” he remarked. His speech echoed the legacy and impact Irv Gotti made while alive.
Irv Gotti was an American record producer and a co-founder of the record label, Murder Inc. He passed away on February 5, 2025, at the age of 54. His family released a heartfelt statement announcing the demise of the music executive.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Irving ‘Irv Gotti’ Lorenzo, on February 5, 2025. Surrounded by family and friends, he departed this world, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him and the countless lives he touched,”
The statement continued “Our dad was an incredible man, a true visionary who transformed the hip-hop industry and changed the game for artists and fans alike. His passion for music and dedication to his craft inspired many, and his contributions will continue to influence future generations.”
The funeral service was star-studded with guests across the music world including Hype Williams, Benny Boom, Angie Martinez, Ashanti, Fat Joe, Steve Stoute and members of the Ruff Ryders, among others.
