Ayogu Eze, the former senator who represented Enugu North senatorial zone and was the chairperson on information and media, have reportedly gave up the ghost.
As at the time of filling this report, the illness which led to his demise was still undisclosed, but it was gathered that he died in a hospital in the federal capital territory (FCT) after suffering an illness.
Ayogu Eze was born on November 23, 1958 and died on Thursday, April 25, 2024. The senator sojourned in this side of the divide for a period of 66 years before navigating to the other side.
He achieved a lot of milestones which includes occupying the senatorial seat of Enugu North from 2007 to 2015.
During his tenure, Eze was a member of the Constitution Drafting and Amendment Committee that made significant changes to Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.
He was reelected to the senate in 2011, and was eventually appointed the chairman, Senate Committee on Work.
Eze also served as a member of committees on Police Affairs, National Planning, Marine Transport and Federal Character & Inter-Government Affairs.
Education
Eze attended the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, where he obtained Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication. He proceeded to International Institute for Journalism, IIJ Berlin, Germany, where he graduated on top of the G55 student stream, comprising working journalists from about 14 African countries.
He also studied for a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Lagos. He successfully attended the executive education programmes of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where he studied “Leadership for the 21st Century: chaos, conflict and courage”; Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.
Titles and Honours
Ayogu Eze was a highly respected and recognized individual within and outside Nigeria. In 2012, he was decorated with one of Nigeria’s most prestigious national honours, the Commander of the Order of the Niger, CON.
He also bagged numerous chieftaincy titles.
In April 1993 at his home local government area, he was honoured and conferred the chieftaincy title: The Ebube Dike of Ogruteland.
Also, he was conferred “Eze Chinaza Ekpere of Umumba Ndi Agu” by late Igwe Joseph Chibuko of Umumba Ndi Agu, Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State in 2009.
Similarly, Igwe Barnabas Okechukwu Agbaji, Enyi 1 of Unadu Kingdom of Igbo Eze South Local Government Area, Enugu State in 2014 conferred on him the “Odezulu Igbo of Unadu”.
