Popular social media critic Daniel Regha, has said a major reason why record labels barely invest in artists nowadays is because most young artists are ungrateful.
Regha stated this while reacting to series of posts made recently by a former Jonzing world signee Ruger on X where he spoke ill about his former record label owned by D Prince, a fellow Nigerian music professional and business man.
Ruger had lamented being neglected while money he generated for the label through his music was used to groom other upcoming artists.
He lamented not receiving adequate support from the record label even while his contract was yet to expire.
Via his official handle on X, he wrote:
“As much as I’m very appreciative of the fact that Jonzing world introduced me to the world,I just couldn’t continue with them because they got too comfortable with the money they were making from me and couldn’t push me further as I wanted to be pushed. Was supposed to renegotiate the contract but l couldn’t imagine 5 years more without action.
“Dey use my money Dey fund new artist,
leaving me in the dark, not being transparent. I just laugh. How e be now?
“I complained, I got angry, some people tell me say no be so dem Dey do things. I still go back HQ go collect fake hugs and handshakes. Nothing still change. I wan mad.
“Many things to to talk but dem fit go wait for me for ikoyi link bridge stab me wotowoto.
“Anyways, I’m proud of myself. Performing at very big festivals this year, touring Europe again, touring Canada again, IDC I’m gonna be cocky coz this is shit they couldn’t do for me. BS!!!”
However, fans have received the message with mixed feelings.
Reacting, popular celebrity critic Daniel Regha said Ruger’s outburst and recent remark on his former home is a testament to his ungratefulness.
He further noted that such behaviour from young people was a major contribitutor to the reason record labels have been hesitating to invest in young artists in recent time.
He wrote, “Ruger’s ungratefu! behaviour is one of the major reasons why record labels barely invest in artistes nowadays; This attitude of musicians abadoning their helpers/labels after debuting or gaining a little popularity is sickening. He complained about how Jonzing World used his money to fund new artistes, but forgets that a contract was signed, & also failed to question where the funds that was used to kick-start his own career came from.”
A netizen identified as Fizzy wrote, “I don’t think he’s being ungrateful, he mentioned that he was patient for a long and kept getting unreasonable hugs and handshakes with nothing to show for himself”
Meanwhile, in a video sequel to the public posts calling out D Prince’s Jonzing world record label, Ruger apologizes to his former boss and record label.
According to the singer who acknowledged that he was still hurt, he also said that everything he wrote or did was not just about the money but for the love he has for everyone in the Jonzing family and his fans.
